Shelter Stations in All Districts of Guangzhou Open 24 Hours a Day

In response to the Low-Temperature Weather in large area of Guangzhou, all districts in Guangzhou have launched emergency cold-proof measures. The shelter stations and rescue stations are 24 hours open to the old widowed, minimal assurance households, households in hardship, etc. with timely supplies of daily necessities of rice, oil and so on to ensure the public within their popedoms away from cold and hunger have a harmonious Spring Festival.

According to Director Feng Jiejun of the Liwan Civil Affairs Bureau, the 37 shelter stations in Liwan District are now open. The Bureau required the street committees to pay a field visit to the 300 old widowed and the elderly who live alone within the district. In addition, for those who have installed emergency alarm systems, the working staff shall give them a ring before 9:00 p.m. every day, keeping in touch with them and paying attention to their situations. Moreover, the street committee will send out hands onto the streets to patrol every day and give cotton quilts and cotton wadded jackets to the outliers. 60 cotton wadded jackets were sent out to the vagrants on January 28th alone.

With the launch of the low temperature cold weather emergency relief plan, the Huangpu District opened 9 shelter stations to the public in need and dispatched cold-proof cotton quilts, clothes, food and drinking water. A special work group will patrol in the central urban areas of the District for no less than 5 hours a day. The work staff will guide and send them to Guangzhou Rescue Stations upon finding the street vagrants and beggars.
