It was learned from the Guangzhou Statistics Bureau that by the end of 2007 the permanent population in Guangzhou had reached 10,045,800, an increase of 291,200 over the year previous.

In the last year there was a steady increase in the registered total population in Guangzhou. At the end of 2007, the registered population hit 7,734,800, increasing by 127,600 over the last year-end totals, up 1.68%. At the same time, however, the natural population growth rate remained at a low level. The natural growth rate of the registered population was 3.75‰.

The development of the registered population in Guangzhou also showed another characteristic in that the working-age population was in a "prime stage" and the ratio of dependent children was 19.13%; the dependency ratio of the seniors was 12.98%, while the total dependency ratio reached 32.11%, which tends to decrease by the year.
