On April 10, nearly 500 merchants and the practitioners in the information industries from the occident, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Mainland China attended the Guangzhou Information Industry Investment and Exchange Conference hosted by the Guangzhou Government. The Exchange Conference sent "invitation letters" to the information enterprises around the world expecting that they would be interested in making investments in Guangzhou, share the business development opportunities of Guangzhou's information industry and, together, build a world information industrial base via industrial coordination, mutual supplementary of advantages, and win-win cooperative efforts.

According to Vice Mayor, Chen Mingde, Guangzhou is now speeding up the growth of its information industry through cooperation with top grade multinational enterprises. At present many world top electronic enterprises have settled in Guangzhou including Intel, IBM, Microsoft, Panasonic, Sony, Siemens, LG, Arasor, and MEIKO Electronics, most of which have set up their R&D centers or regional headquarters here.

Guangzhou is now deploying an industrial development plan which takes Guangzhou Science City as its core base and Huadu District, Conghua City, Zengcheng City, Nansha District, Nansha District, and Panyu Districts as radiation transfer regions. The five information manufacturing industrial clusters are thriving, featuring communications equipment, computer and peripherals, electronics components, home audio & video equipment and applied electronic manufacturing industry elements as their focus.
