On the night of January 12th, the long-awaited Cantonese Opera Culture Square was unveiled in the Guangzhou Culture Park. Participants included the President of the CPPCC Guangdong Chen Shaoji, Mayor Zhang Guangning, Director of the Municipal Publicity Department, former mayor Li Ziliu and famous Cantonese Opera artists including Hong Xiannv, Luo Pinchao, Luo Jiabao and Chen Xiaohan as well as 800 fans, who enjoyed the first performance therein Wu Nv Bai Shou.

The culture square was proposed for construction by Chen Shaoji. Zhu Xiaodan and Zhang Guangning contributed to the solution of the construction capital. So far the first phase has been completed. When the square was unveiled, approximately 10 shows would be staged there with 7 going to January. The square is not profit-driven, making the tickets easily affordable.

Since the performance center established in the park was open to opera shows in the 1950s, the culture park has seen the old generation of Cantonese Opera artists on the stage. Many currently active performers can also trace their art lives back to this place.
